Daily Quickie: KFC Cheese Top Burger

Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Daily Quickie is a short tag on the title which I use for blog entries about food I'm snacking at home, work or anywhere.

If you've been a reader for a while, you probably know that I'm a big fan of KFC. So when I first saw the commercial for the Cheese Top Burger, I can't help but ask myself, "Is this serious? This is probably a bad joke, right?" But of course, KFC wouldn't pay for the commercial slot just to make us laugh. It's not April Fool's Day when I saw it anyway.

Even if I found the concept behind the burger funny, I convinced myself to give it a try. So when our family ordered in our favorite Bucket Meal with Brownies (P585) for delivery, I also included an ala carte order of the Cheese Top Burger (P48). To my dismay, the cheese on top of the bun has cracks and was broken into a few more smaller pieces. I guess it's not delivery-friendly, but I was still interested to give it a taste nonetheless.

Upon first bite though, I somehow understood what KFC was going for with this one. The baked cheese on top was quite dry making it easier to hold on to the burger even with bare hands, while sandwiched between the buns is a chicken patty in a garlic parmesan dressing. The combination of ingredients is quite similar to other chicken burgers around, but having the cheese on top makes the bun cheesier. That and nothing more.

I guess I wasn't too disappointed with the Cheese Top Burger since I found it as a joke even from the start anyway. However, I don't recommend trying it out for those of you who are curious souls. You can always order any cheeseburger and put the cheese on top. But for the lols, go on and have fun with it like what these cool guys did! ;)

  1. Not a big fan of the cheese (you're right, too dry!)... but I was sold with the garlic parmesan dressing. For that alone, the Cheese Top burger is a winner in my book.

  2. It is best consumed freshly made. :) I don't have anything against it, it just lacked creativity. :p

  3. When photos of the Cheese Top Burger spread on FB, I thought it was a joke. As if it was photoshopped or something. I only believed it when I saw the burger for real. Haha!

    1. I first saw the TVC so I knew it had to be real, but I still can't believe KFC would come up with something like this.. XD It's quite effective though as it got a lot of attention.. ^^

  7. First time I saw the spoof, I burst out laughing. Honestly, I don't get it either. I think if it was warm and melting and drenching the bun (if that's even possible), it would be kind of good though. :)

  8. I've always wondered about the rationale of this product. Still don't get it as, based on the reviews I've been reading, it doesn't do much to the sandwich anyway. Sayang naman as I really love anything cheesy. =)

  9. Haven't tried this! Looks like yummy but the reviews were not that good after all. :(

  10. If their goal was new product concept, they should have delivered what they really advertised. Like a thick melty cheese talaga db? Hinde ung dry and small. :-)

  11. When I first saw the commercial I was really laughing. I said what's the difference between the cheese in between and cheese on top. The video was hilarious. I haven't tried it... I will order a regular burger instead. LOL

  12. I've never tried this one. The first time I saw the commercial, I was amused too.

  13. Have tried this one and I'm not impressed too - cheese on top cracks and nothing special about the taste. Even the presentation of the burger doesn't look nice because the melted cheese looks messy.

  14. Hahahahhha yeah I first heard about this burger because of that show. Hahahahaha :))) I heard the ad agency for this got a lot of flak because KFC ended up being made fun of :)) It's a really funny concept though. I don't know what made them decide to do this burger. :))

  15. It's crazy. I tried this too. Haha. It was just yet another burger. Buti nalang it wasn't so expensive. It wasn't bad, it was just funny.

  16. I have not tried it and don't want to try. I really do not mean the R&D of KFC but don't they have any product to develop?

  17. I haven't tried this one but I think handling will be the problem since the cheese is at the top. I think this is just another way to attract customers but indeed it has the same taste with the regular cheeseburger though it was really cheaper compared to others

  18. This is what my husband would want us to try but I told him it will so messy to eat.

  19. My dad gave it a try. Wasn't disappointed too, but I guess this is best when it's just served and hot. Whoever thought of this must have been bored or drunk, perhaps? Hahaha!

  20. i actually do not see the logic about putting the cheese on top instead of having it stuffed inside the sandwich like the rest of the ingredients. i do not think it will change the taste of the burger one bit! but maybe i will try this out soon, just for the heck of it! ;)

  21. KFC has always something new in its menu. Some became my family's favorite, but then, we're surprised whenever we go back to their branch and found out that they've stopped serving it. Some items, we learned, are just short-lived and are not meant to occupy a permanent spot in their menu.

  22. Yum Yum!

I would want to eat it right now. Cheese on top? Yay! I do love cheese.

  23. The moment I saw the picture, I couldn't help but let out a bit of a snicker here. Quite frankly, I don't see how different it would be from putting the cheese in between the bun and the patty. If at all, you'll just end up with lesser cheese. Makes me wonder what were they thinking.

  24. I just don't like it. I mean it's looks cool. But.. nay for me! :). I also made a review!

  25. yeah ur definately right about the cheese being dry and unsavory.. although i love cheese.. i dont want it dry and i dont want it at the top of my sandwich.. hope they would think about products that would satidfy their adoring customers..

  26. I tried it once and told myself that is the last one. Nothing special here. I was glad that this was removed from their menu. Not cool :(
