Mooncake Festival at Makati Shangri-la Manila

It's that time of the year again! And nope, I'm not talking about the Christmas season, although we all probably feel the cheery, holiday vibe already. *cue the Christmas music* But before that, it's the end of the Chinese Ghost Month, which marks the beginning of the Mid-Autumn Festival, or as I always call it, the Mooncake Festival.

Back when I was younger, the Mid-Autumn Festival gets me all excited! 'Cause apart from the abundance of mooncakes, we'd play the Mooncake Dice Game where I curiously channel all my luck (I'm not that lucky when it comes to raffles and games.) and win the chong-guan. If my memory serves me right, I think I've won the chong-guan about three times or more.

But now that I'm older, while the Mooncake Dice Game still excites me, it's the mooncake itself that takes center-stage during this season. And why not? It's a delicious treat that's filling and tickles the taste buds. Not to mention, we here in the metro can really enjoy the best ones. And speaking of the best mooncakes, let me share with you Makati Shangri-la's new Black Sesame Mooncake -- a new addition to their classic Shangri-la mooncake offerings.

While Shangri-la Hotels' mooncakes are more expensive than most, I can honestly say that they're worth the price especially if you plan to give them to friends and business associates to impress. The Black Sesame Mooncake in particular, is pretty light on the sweetness scale, yet enriched with the smoothness and bold aroma of premium black sesame.

Other classic Shangri-la Hotels mooncake flavors are: White Lotus, White Lotus (less 30% sugar), Mixed Nuts, and Red Bean.

Of course, packaging is an important aspect as well, and Makati Shangri-la can sure wow anyone with their elegantly and well-crafted boxes in aqua blue, peach, red, and gold.

"Every year, we are delighted to celebrate this with our beloved guests, the Shangri-La way," said Alain Borgers, general manager of Makati Shangri-la.

Anyhow, whether you'll be playing a nice game of Puah Tiong Chiu (mooncake dice game) with your family and friends, will be out to admire the full moon, or will just chow down slices of mooncakes, let me greet you a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 中秋节快乐! °˖ ✧◝(○ ヮ ○)◜✧˖ °
