Serenitea: Not Your Ordinary Cup of Tea

Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Last week after our tasting at Bar Dolci in Burgos Circle, my date and I spotted a popular milk tea destination -- Serenitea.

Serenitea has been one of the most raved tea places among my circle of friends and online buddies. Although it has been in the market for 3 years already, I haven't tried any of its tea selections yet. (I know, it's such a shame since I call myself a tea lover!) So even though my date and I already consumed tons of sugar that evening, we didn't deprive ourselves of Serenitea's offerings.

Although it was a midweek night, Serenitea's apple green and white colored humble shop was full of tea and milk tea lovers alike. From what seemed to be college students and fresh-from-the-office yuppies, everyone looked like they can't wait to get their hands on their favorite Serenitea drinks.

When it was already our turn to order, both my date and I were clueless as what to get. I was thinking of trying out their bestselling milk tea. However, I became a little conscious with my sugar consumption for the night and decided to just order something from their Frost Series. My date on the other hand, who doesn't like milk teas in general, opted for a drink from the Serenitease line.

After ordering and paying, the friendly crew gave us a disc-shaped thing which lights up and buzzes when your order is ready for pickup at the counter.

It took a little less than 10 minutes before our orders were ready. The disc lighted, but it didn't buzz though. I got myself a medium Winter Melon Frost (P80) with Green Tea Jelly (P15). My date on the other hand, got himself a medium Taro Lover with Pearl (P80).

My Winter Melon Frost was good. The tea was clean tasting and the winter melon bits infused in the drink gave the plain tea the sweetness it needs. I also like the Green Tea Jelly in my beverage choice. It was interesting to munch and it does have that green tea flavor.

My date was not too happy with his drink though. He said that his Taro Lover didn't taste like taro. Even at 100% sugar level, it didn't have the sweetness that he was expecting. I tried to take a sip from his drink. And although it wasn't bad, the taro flavor was also too subtle for my taste. My date got to finish the whole thing though, he said the pearls gave it the sweetness and texture to be palatable.

THE VERDICT

Although we've had a taste of what Serenitea offers, I don't think I can give a reasonable verdict just yet. The Winter Melon Frost was good, but the Taro Lover was quite a disappointment. However we will surely be back to try other Serenitea beverages from its wide assortment of tea selection. They have a lot to boast about as they offer different kinds of milk teas, freshly brewed teas, tea lattes, Yakult teas, fruit teas and tea slushes among others. Their crew is also friendly and quite attentive to customers.

For my next trip to Serenitea though, I'll make sure to try one of their milk teas. And to Serenitea fans reading this, let me know too if they have must-try drinks that I shouldn't miss.

  14. My first "date" with Serenitea was a take out and while the first had a not-so-great impression, I gave ours a chance.

At, without a doubt, a couple of months into the dating zone --- steady na ako with Hokkaido. :)
