Parvati: Sweet and Homemade Treats

Thursday, January 19, 2012
Trinoma is one of the nearest decent malls from my place. And although it has been my go-to mall for the past few years, there are still a lot of food spots I haven't visited yet. One of them is the one-stop desserts shop called Parvati.

Parvati which is located in the mall's Mindanao lobby may look like your average pastry shop. However unlike other dessert spots in the Metro, Parvati supports talented home bakers by providing the venue while the latter provides the goodies. As of the moment, this dessert shop houses 40 best-selling desserts made by 24 different home bakers. From cakes, brownies, cookies, mochi, macarons and whatnot -- Parvati will surely have treats best suited for everyone.

Just a few weeks ago while having my "me" time, I finally paid this famous desserts wonder a visit. It was just about 11AM in a weekday morning, so I was happy to have the whole place by myself. Parvati's interior is simple, made up of mostly whites and dark browns. However, the modern tiled pattern on the walls made the whole place feel hip. The seemingly soft lighting also provided that additional allure and cozy atmosphere which made my stay really comfy, not to mention a lighting also good for photography.

After settling on the sofa seat, I was handed Parvati's menu. I'm big on desserts, but the variety and wide selection of this pastry shop's menu was just too overwhelming for me. I wanted to get a lot -- Carrot Cake, Triple Decker Chocolate Cheesecake, Pistachio Sans Rival, and more. In the end though, I went with what the server recommended -- a mini Milk Chocolate Cake (P135) by Frank&Carol's.

Frank&Carol's Milk Chocolate Cake is one lovely treat. The chocolate cake is moist, rich and smooth on the palate. The simple base cake is covered with chocolate ganache and even topped with shavings of Belgian chocolate. Although this cake with all the chocolatey goodness, may sound too sweet, I can attest that it is not. It has the right balance of sweetness and a slight hint of bitterness, perfect for desserts lovers like me who is not a big fan of overly sweet treats.

Honey Apple Iced Tea P90
Being the weird person that I am, I decided to pair my cake with Parvati's Honey Apple Iced Tea (P90). I know it doesn't really go well with chocolate, and I should have gotten a cup of coffee instead. But since I was feeling very dehydrated that morning, I really needed a cold glass of fruit tea to quench my thirst.

For a tea, this tall glass is clean tasting, with a light hint of honey. I can really taste the apple too as I'm guessing they've probably mixed the tea with apple juice. Next time I order this drink though, I'll make sure to not pair it up with a chocolate or even with a coffee-based cake.

After finishing my dessert and drink, I checked the other Parvati products that I can take home. Their Green Tea Cookies caught my attention. Unfortunately though, they were already out of stock. I saw that they have French Macarons (P350 for box of 12) by Petite Patisserie so I just got a box instead.

Petite Patisserie's French Macarons come in 4 different flavors -- Valrhona chocolate with dark chocolate ganache, Milk chocolate with cinnamon, Queso de Bola, and Salted Caramel.

Among these 4 flavors, I like the Valrhona chocolate with dark chocolate ganache the most as it is rich in flavor and very chocolatey. The pink one on the other hand, was surprising because I thought it was strawberry but it turned out to be of a salty buttery taste. The yellow one was just okay and indeed tasted like cheese. The white one though left me confused. The filling tasted like macapuno and nothing like cinnamon. For about P30 a piece though, these macarons are quite good as the shells are light, airy and delicately crisp.

THE VERDICT

Parvati is truly a one-stop desserts shop. It houses almost every confectionery that one may fancy. If only I had enough moolah with me that day, I would have bought more cakes. Fortunately though, this gives me more reason to pay Parvati a next visit -- to try their Triple Decker Chocolate Cheesecake and other goodies.

This desserts haven doesn't only offer sweet treats. They have also added gourmet dishes -- soup, salads, sandwiches and pastas on the menu for people who wants a complete meal.

  15. trinoma is so far from here, huhu. T_T

the thing about macarons is that they are very finicky. you can only flavor the cookies with powdered flavorings, and since white chocolate doesn't have a powdered version, i gather that the filling is white chocolate and the nutmeg is simply sprinkled on top. i don't know why it tasted like macapuno though lol.

kind of odd to have pink colored salted caramel, they're usually light brown in color. XD

  19. Trinoma is far from my place so I rarely go there, pero Parvati made it look that it's worthy of a long drive. I'm big when it comes to chocolate cake, so i'll try if the Frank&Carol's Milk Chocolate Cake suits my palate.

  21. lols I thought the first picture was the carrot cake XD

Cup of coffee the best! But it you're really thirsty I think you should drink some water first then the honey apple iced tea afterwards.

Judging by your rating, I think the shop wasn't
that bad. BTW, what music is being played here?

  22. Your post made me crave, big time! Do try the Triple Decker Chocolate Cheesecake; once slice may look small, but it is so thick and dense, chocolatey and heavenly. Mochi Ice Cream is also great. :)

  28. We also just posted about our first time at Parvati (it was a super late post, we went there last year pa hahaha screw backlogs!). And as soon as I published it, I knew I just had to go back so I dragged my nanay, Ken and my BFF to Trinoma again last week after a rather disappointing dinner at this lame excuse of a diner (will post about it this coming week, just in case you're naintriga ^_^). But, yes, I love Parvati too because they help talented home bakers. :)
