If there's something I learned about starting to eat healthy, it's to make changes little by little. If you try and throw your current diet out of the window in favor of a whole new diet (e.g. no rice, vegetarian, etc.), it can get challenging to fully commit. And more often than not, you really won't get to keep all the changes for good. However, if you transition to a healthier eating habit little by little, you're incorporating "healthy" into your lifestyle. And if you do it properly, healthy eating won't just be a diet nor a phase. It'll be your way of life.
One of the first steps to do it, in my personal experience, is to lessen the "junk" food at home, and fill the pantry with healthier options. And for this post, I want to share with you how you can transition to consuming healthier breakfast on your next grocery trip to S&R, our favorite members-only shopping center.

If you have to have cereal in the morning, ditch the sugary stuff and opt for something higher in fiber to make you feel full longer. If you want it sweet, cereals with a fruity twist are good!

But if you prefer something lower in fat and sugar yet with higher soluble fiber, then oatmeal is the way to go! You can always add fruits, nuts and even dark chocolate if you ever find the need to pimp up your oatmeal.

If you crave for pancakes, waffles and other doughy treats, I highly suggest considering using mashed bananas, eggs and baking powder. But of course, not all of us have the time to prep whenever we want them. Good thing there are healthier pancake mixes around!

Another health tip is to incorporate the super food chia seeds in your diet. They're high in omega-3 fatty acids, loaded with antioxidants, and high in fiber and protein yet very low in calories. They can be blended in with smoothies, combined with your pancake mixture, added to your favorite drinks, made into pudding, and more!

As for the choice of milk, personally, I opt for soy milk and almond milk since my stomach deals better with non-dairy products. However, if I were to go for dairy, it wouldn't hurt to enjoy fat-free cow's milk.
There was also a deal on Del Monte 100% fruit juices during my most recent S&R trip.

But if you're up for the healthiest juice at S&R, in my opinion, you should check out their produce section. They churn out fresh orange and fresh pineapple juice by the liter. And I still can't believe I haven't tried them out yet until recently!

The S&R staff makes the juices fresh by order. I haven't tried the pineapple variant yet, but I can vouch for the orange. It's made from squeezing 16 (if I'm not mistaken) pieces of oranges, using their special juicing machine, so every sip is sweet, citrusy and orangey! Best to be consumed in 2-3 days though, unless of course you're freezing it.
Just like everything else in life, starting (and maintaining) to eat and live healthy can be a real challenge. But if you can commit to a 14-day streak, it will soon be a habit and eventually, a way of life.
I myself am guilty of not being able to really eat as clean as I want to. However, choosing the healthier options for a meal or two, is already a good start. So this 2016, let's all try to eat and live a little healthier than last year. Little by little. (ﾟ∇^*)b
